Configuring your browser for RasMol script

(following instructions are given for Netscape or Mozilla, they should work with other web browser)
  • UNIX
    1. Select Preferences... from the Edit menu
    2. Select Applications from the Navigator category
    3. Select New...
    4. Enter application/x-rasmol for MIME Type
    5. Select Application for Handled By
    6. Enter xterm -e rasmol -script %s (your rasmol executable has to be in list of searchable directories. Check PATH variable)
    7. Select OK
  • MAC OS 9 and older systems  
    1. Select Preferences... from the Edit menu
    2. Select Applications from the Navigator category
    3. Select New...
    4. Enter application/x-rasmol for MIME Type
    5. Select Application for Handled By
    6. Click on the Choose... button. Then find and select the RasMac application
    7. Select RSML in the File Type pulldown menu so that the files in the Rasmol lectures will be interpreted as Rasmol Script files.
    8. Select OK
    MAC OS X (preferably, you should use the Jmol button. If for any reason, you want to use Rasmol. use MAC OS 9 RasMac_PPC_32BIT as helper. NOTE: in Mac OS X, the script is not read as a script, so, once in RasMac, you must select "backbone" to see molecules, but SHSP will not appear as colored. You can also use X11 based rasmol (via fink) then you can download the rasmol script (getrasmol.pl) and open it with X11 based rasmol)
    1. Select Preferences... from the Application menu
    2. Select Helper Applications from the Navigator category
    3. Select New...
    4. Enter application/x-rasmol for MIME Type
    5. Select Application for Handled By
    6. Click on the Choose... button. Then find and select the RasMac application
    7. Select OK
  • WINDOWS
    1. Select Preferences... from the Edit menu
    2. Select Applications from the Navigator category
    3. Select New Type
    4. Enter application/x-rasmol for MIME Type
    5. Click on the Browse button. Now find and select the Raswin application. The path to the application name will now be present in the "Application to use:" field. At the end of this string you should add a space followed by the following string: -script %1.
    6. Select OK
